Water Catchment and Storage

Potable water is one of the immediate critical needs for communities and residents impacted by hurricanes. Tropical climates have significant rainfall annually although not always spread evenly throughout the seasons. Sloped concrete roofs provide an excellent collector for rain water and hurricane survivable structure provide protection for water storage tanks housed as part of a flood plain mitigation design. By incorporating drainpipes into the roof and wall structures, each structure can include survivable potable water storage. In areas with drier climates, tanks can be filled from wells, streams and water treatment facilities using transport trucks making water available for hurricane season before it becomes a crisis.
